Tom Groleau is not only one of the owners of the Ipswich River Music Academy, he is also a teacher. Tom has performed for the majority of his life as a drummer, guitarist, singer and bass player. He began studying the drums at an early age with Eddie Barbato (Neville Brothers, Cyndi Lauper). After applying to Berklee College of Music, Tom’s schooling became detoured when he landed on the HORDE Tour drumming with his band “The Mudhens,” supporting artists such as Neil Young, Beck, Ben Folds Five, Primus, Toad the Wet Sprocket, Ween, Medeski Martin and Wood, and Soul Coughing. Soon after this tour, he found his way back to the stage opening for Bob Dylan, Paul Simon, and Jimmy Buffett. With the Flutie band, he supported Lynyrd Skynyrd, Bo Diddley, and Meredith Brooks. Julian has been a professional musician since 2002. He is proficient on drums, acoustic/electric guitar, electric bass and voice. This gives him the ability to incorporate many different perspectives into the lesson at hand. Julian has a dual degree in music arranging/production and engineering from Berklee College of Music, which comes in handy when it comes to analyzing and dissecting songs to learn. Although he may have knowledge in areas of music that others may find complicated or intimidating, his philosophy on music learning is simple: as long as you love to play, love music and love to share it with others, you don’t have to be a pro and it’s never too late to start. Learning is about mistakes and repetition, so don’t be shy. During his lessons, he will not force methods, nor will he make you learn anything that will not be relevant to achieving your own musical goals. He will simply strive to find that which will hook you into learning and playing music. So all ages and levels welcome.
